Yesterday I issued a personal invitation to everyone to join what I was calling the TamPogo-Tango Foundational Marketing Program. My goal in creating this program is to give everyone a set of tools that makes wealth creation not simply possible, not even probable….but actually, definite.




There are so many different studies done comparing the habits of highly successful people. Having been interviewed for a couple of those studies myself, I saw the limitations in them immediately. Generally they try to find the common traits among the wealthy. The problem with this approach is that traits are not causal factors. As an example, we could make a list of the world’s best desserts. Then we could list some traits (ingredients, in this case): eggs, cocoa, vanilla, milk, sugar. Actually, those dessert “traits” don’t really tell you much, as many bad desserts have those very same ingredients or “traits”.



The truth is that success in life is very simple. It isn’t necessarily easy. But it is simple. There is a difference. Simple means it is potentially doable by most everyone while easy means that most will do it. “Simple but not easy,” by definition means that it something is potentially doable by nearly everyone but very few will actually do it.



Success in relationships is simple. Success in feeling self worth is simple. Success in helping others and being charitable is simple. Success in wealth creation is simple. It is just a matter of understanding and performing according to the proper outline for success. But therein is the problem. Many less successful people want to “do it their own way.” Which is ok, actually, if their way works. But if they have tried their way for a period of years and haven’t reached their pinnacle of success, why not try another method for a few months? What do they have to lose? They haven’t gotten to where they want to be using their methods.



Learning from others is not giving up control. Your own success is still going to be a result of your own work; your own successful application of the principles that you have learned.



So for those of you who are confident enough in yourselves to accept help, I am offering for the first time ever to give you my personal secrets to success.



A couple e-mails ago I introduced the concept of “persmartstence.” Webster doesn’t necessarily have a definition for this word creation of my own (yet) but it is nonetheless one of the most important words you will ever encounter. I define it as a method of behaving that involves both incredible persistence and diligent, smart work. In other words, working when others quit and working smart rather than simply hard. Digging a ten foot hole with a tablespoon would be an accomplishment of hard work but not particularly smart when there was a shovel available. Giving up before the hole is done is destructive in either instance.



Persmartstence is behavior that separates the highly successful and wealthy from those who fall short of their goals, the wannabe’s and the losers.



Persmartstence is a perfect example of something that is often simple but rarely easy. Persmartstence can be exhibited by nearly everyone but in reality very few will actually practice it. The reason is simple. Somewhere along the line the human species decided that getting more for less is highly desirable and getting something for nothing is the highest achievement. Rather than believing in ourselves and the time proven fact that lasting riches come to those who work consistently and who work smart; they prefer to bank on wealth from short cuts, from cheating or from blind luck. The line to purchase a lottery ticket is always longer than the line to invest 11 years worth of round the clock effort learning medicine. It doesn’t matter that lottery winners nearly always become broke within a short time of their windfall. The line forms longer every year.



There are times in life when incredibly good fortune appears on your doorstep. But it normally happens while you are working smart and consistently. It rarely occurs while you are dreaming, gambling, cheating or pretending. When something too good to be true presents itself to a dreamer or a pretender – the chances of it being real are somewhere between slim and none and slim left town. If something that seems too good to be true is going to happen to someone and it is real, it is almost certain to be someone who is used to living their life with Persmartence.



Persmartence is very rare today but the lack of Persmartstence is more apparent in network marketing than anywhere else. Many people are lured into network marketing with a promise of fast, big money. See anything wrong with that logic right off the top? If not, go back and reread the definition of Persmartence. Think about it….fast, big money. The whole concept doesn’t make any sense. Fast, big money has to come from somewhere. It doesn’t appear from thin air. There certainly isn’t an unlimited supply of it or everyone would have it. So what exactly is your promise of fast, big money? Saying anything under the sun, which you were provided with in clever packaging, to convince a desperate, gullible soul to part with $1,000 sign up fee so that you can earn $400 quick dollars? Since a majority of those you recruit will be good at being recruited but not at recruiting, few will actually make money and soon you will run out of gullible souls – long before you made big money.

You have to get out of the lottery ticket line and recognize it for what it is – a waste of time and resources. It’s a game where even the one in ten million winners end up a loser. In other words it is a game not governed by Persmartstence.



Let’s look at one of my favorite sidelights; thoroughbred racehorse breeding. Breeding, feeding, caring for and selling a stable of young racehorses horses requires Persmartence but if I do a good job I am able to make quite a lot of money. On the other hand, caring for unicorns simply requires imagination but the only way I can create wealth doing that is by selling them to someone with an even more vivid imagination than mine. It is not Persmartence at work; it is not a strategy for success.



If you are unwilling to let the unicorns out of the pen or unwilling to turn a deaf ear to the next phone call promising you fast, big money by investing in the next totally natural nano nutritional innovation backed by medical doctors from the Pasteur Institute in France, then please do not read join my Foundational Marketing Program. Save yourself a failure experience and save me some valuable time down the road trying to educate a Leprichan hunter who is pretending to dress in a business suit.

Turn on any news show and you will quickly be made aware that our economic recession continues to wear away at the personal wealth of our nation and that it is not going to significantly improve any time soon. A lot of the personal and commercial financial heartache is tied to what I call “capital crunch” which is basically the unwillingness of banks and lending institutions to loan out money to those with legitimate means to pay them back. When a business has its credit lines called in and is unable to borrow money to overcome temporary cash flow shortages or complete needed maintenance tasks or necessary expansion, the workers suffer, as does the general economy.

Human nature being what it is, people always want to see the money immediately. The “show me the money” philosophy has been accelerated by technology. Our lives have become “immediate” and “on demand” while technology has provided us so many choices. Often times, this actually works against us. If a certain channel doesn’t entertain us in the first 3 seconds, we change it. After all, there are hundreds to choose from and it is so easy to change the channel. One button on the remote or even a phrase out loud and we are on to the next program.



It all seemed so simple. If there was something you didn’t like about your job, you would just change it. After all, there were plenty of jobs. If you needed a new wardrobe, just apply for a new credit card to buy it. If your car was good enough yesterday but suddenly you like a different color, no problem. Just get a new loan for a “better” car. If your home was fine until your neighbor moved into a bigger one for a smaller payment; why shouldn’t you do the same?!



In 2007, I recall sitting on the beach talking to a friend who I was advising not to trade his $780,000 California home for a $7,000,000 home that was a "once in a lifetime" steal for $5,000,000. My argument was that his $350,000 income just couldn’t support it. His argument was that his family fell in love with the swim up bar in the gorgeous pool in the back yard. I remember referring to these sudden life choices as “monetary musical chairs.” It was a giant game that was fun while the music played but when it suddenly stopped, there would NO chairs left. Unfortunately, he bought the home and the music stopped. And while I wish I had been wrong, indeed there were no chairs left to fall into. The last I checked, he lost his Mercedes, his Jag and his Escalade and is driving a Honda. He also lost his home but fortunately still has a job to allow his family to live in a decent rented townhome.



On Demand is good for some things but not for creating wealth. For a year I argued against the network marketing culture that fostered people jumping from company to company, fleecing others of as much as they could in the process. I told anyone who would listen, that the way to build a lasting financial framework is “one brick at a time.” But that’s a hard message to accept in a down economy when immediate need is at its highest. Desperation has come with inflated hope and with predators counting on that fact.



When the lights go out across the city, looting happens. When an earthquake destroys a country, fake charities pop up. When an oil spill happens, phony businesses get set up on the shoreline, promising everyone their share (real or otherwise) of the billions. And when the economy collapses the networking predators come out in packs ALL PROMISING YOU IMMEDIATE SUCCESS AND SOMETHING FOR NOTHING.



Since I have been running TamPogo, I have seen literally THOUSANDS of these come and go – all with completely predicable personal devastation to those in need of a quick fix. And each time, when another one of these poorly conceived dominos collapsed, it caused me great pain. People were not learning from recent history. They were trying to solve problems that the “show me the money” attitude caused with a “show me the money” solution. As Albert Einstein said, doing the same thing again and again and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity. In this case, temporary monetary insanity.



Applying Einstein’s belief to myself, I realized simply counseling people against wanting faster rewards and expecting a different result, was also insanity. If I was to be an effective leader then I needed to DO SOMETHING DIFFERENTLY; something that could solve the needs of the people who were looking to me for help.
