Print medium is a standard and powerful way of disseminating info to several different types of individuals, and is apparent even these days. With the passing of time the printing services industry has become big immensely and has developed to its present form of a diversified industry. Today it addresses a wide range of demands of clients, which goes much more than printing.

With the invention of the first printing press by Gutenberg in the--00's, mass printing services in the form of relief printing developed into a full fledged industrial service. A slight projection of the printed image from the base, like in a rubber stamp, is a key characteristic of relief printing. Relief printing is rarely in use nowadays, though there are still some instances where it is used.

Technology has always been a motivating factor behind changes in printing techniques that have been embraced down the years. Modern printing techniques have advanced to a great extent, and each technique has its own uses. In fact, most clients now feel overwhelmed with the printing alternatives available in the market.

Offset printing is a popular printing technique favoured by most printers nowadays. In this method, minimum ink is used to print the matter, which is first put on metal plates and is then transferred onto paper. This cheap and quick technique of printing is highly favoured and used when mass printing is needed.

Other printing methods that have come up with advancements in technology are electrostatic printing, which resembles photocopying, and thermal printing, which uses a system of selective heating of coated thermal paper.

However, digital printing is the latest printing method that is drawing a lot of attention. As the name indicates, in this method, images are digitally created on a computer, which are then checked for accuracy and are finally printed. This mode is quick and error free, but is appropriate mostly for limited prints. As the printer can modify each print in this method, it can be employed for computer form printing, where documents such as receipts or invoices can be printed for different clients, with each having an identical format but different contents.

Printing services took another dimension when the world wide web started becoming popular. Printing companies have their commercial websites that clients can use from right inside their homes or offices and register orders after seeing online printing samples.

Technological innovations have always brought about significant positive changes in printing methods and the quality of the prints. The good news is that this trend of change is going to continue in the future as well, bringing positive advancements to improve performance and lower costs.
